Gracious Gift: 1 June 2024

Dear All

There isn’t a single person in the world who does not admire the generosity that they see in other people.

This weekend celebrates the endless generosity of Jesus in emptying himself firstly in the form of bread and wine that we consume as Eucharist and then his generosity in self-emptying himself as our rescuer from our sins on the cross of Calvary.

No wonder Eucharist means thanksgiving.

It’s also Reconciliation Week. We can’t call ourselves Chrisitan Catholics and let the injustices done to Aboriginal people continue today. If Jesus came to Australia today, he would have plenty to say about the situation of Aboriginal people that needs everyone’s attention.

Take care

Reconciliation is an ongoing journey

The journey to reconciliation with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples is not easy, but the Catholic Church remains hopeful of healing.

The Eucharist is the life of the people

The Eucharist is the life of the people. The Eucharist gives them a centre of life. All can come together without the barriers of race or language in order to celebrate the feast days of the Church.

Why do we no longer get along with each other

Why is there such bitter polarization inside of our countries, our neighbourhoods, our churches, and even in our families? Why do we feel so unsafe in many of our conversations where we are perpetually on guard so as not to step on some political, social, or moral landmine?
