Gracious Gift: 22nd May 2024

Dear All

This Gracious Gift is early this week as I am leaving on a jet plane for a brief period of time and will not be in a position to send it out as normal on Saturday.

How much does the Holy Trinity mean to us? It’s the central mystery of our faith. The simplest version I know to seek to capture a mystery in mere words are from the words of the old hymn, “Firmly, I believe and truly.” Newman’s lyrics were, “God is three and God is one.”

There is a threeness in oneness in being human. We are body, mind and spirit. Yet we one entity in our humanity.

There’s a threeness in oneness is in a family: Mother, Father, Child.

There’s a threeness in oneness is in nature: Earth, Sea and Sky. Nature is the first Testament of God.

May we all bow in awe and wonder at the mystery of God who we hunger for at the core of our being and with whom we want to spend our eternity.

Take care

Fr. Patrick

Gentleness and power found in Holy Spirit

Christians are called to proclaim the Gospel to everyone with gentleness and the power of the Holy Spirit, Pope Francis said on Pentecost yesterday.

Hey You Stop being so critical

The “listening Church” is not afraid of criticism, but offers an open door, a place of familiar security where differing views may be expressed, and a common understanding reached.
