Gracious Gift: 8 June 2024

Dear All

And so we move into Ordinary Time. But only yesterday, was the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart. And today is the Immaculate Heart of Mary.

The return of Ordinary Time immediately after these two special days that focus on the hearts of Jesus and Mary is no chronological accident. No, Mother Church is silently teaching us something in these three days being side by side.

Hearts are at the core of our being physically. The physical always points to the spiritual. Our inner spiritual self, our heart is at the core of our spiritual being, also called spirit or soul.

Out of the core of his being, Jesus emptied himself daily by living what we pray in the Our Father: Thy will be done. His crucifixion was the supreme act  of his obedience. Adam and Eve’s disobedience brought sin and evil, Jesus’ obedience brought us deliverance. Obedience to God’s will was the ‘yes’ of Jesus.

Mary too said ‘yes’ out of her obedience to God’s will for her. She is our example as to how we too can authentically pray to God our Father  that we mean what we pray for our life and our being: Thy Will be Done in me.

Ordinary Time will show us week after week how Jesus lived ‘thy will be done’ until this spiritual truth flows through each of our hearts, and lives.

Take care
